Shimla, Oct 2 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Left for criticising the UPA's economic policies, saying welfare schemes are possible due to the economic growth achieved by the country.

Without naming the BJP and the Left, Mr Chidambaram, while launching the ''Aam Adami Bima Yojna'' during a public meeting here, said the funds for these schemes were being provided due to the 9.46 per cent economic growth of the country.

He said while the ''party on the right'' did not believe in social justice at all as it believed that India was shining, the other parties were under the belief that the money would fall from the heavens.

''India must shine for all and not for a selected few as some political parties believe,'' he said.

He described the launch of the scheme as a tribute to the father of the nation who envisioned the upliftment of the poorest of the poor.

The Union Minister also showered praise on the Virbhadra Singh led Congress Government and said since Himachal Pradesh was the best administered state in the country, the scheme was being launched from here.

Expressing faith that the state government would implement the scheme whole-heartedly, he said, ''I am sure the Chief Minister and his team will implement the scheme in letter and spirit and with commitment and dedication''.
