Assam celebrates Mahatma's birth anniversary

Guwahati, Oct 2 (UNI) Assam today celebrated the 138th birth anniversary of Mahamta Gandhi with gaity.

Governor Lt Gen. (retd) Ajai Singh led the state in paying floral tributes to the Father of the Nation.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi offered tribute to the Mahatma at a main function held at Rabibndra Bhawan. He also administered the non-violence oath to the people, who attended the celebration where many ministers, legislators, and bureacrats were present.

The Gandhi Jayanti was also observed at the Gandhi Mandap in the city. Students from defferent schools had participated in the cultural programmes where a special skit on the country's freedom struggle was also performed.

A peace rally was taken out in the city. Fireworks are also scheduled for the evening.
