'Unsafe edible oil being imported from Myanmar'
Imphal, Oct 01: Manipur Food and Civil Supplies (FCS) Minister Yumkham Erabot has expressed concern over the alleged low standard of edible oil being imported from Myanmar.
FCS officials today said the oil, imported from that country through Moreh at Manipur's Chandel district, was of comparatively low to the prescribed standards.
''The samples, collected mainly from hotels and resturants, was found to be of poor quality,'' the officials said adding that appropriate action would be taken in this regard.
They also added that the oil pakcets had no labels to indicate the date of manufacture or expiry. ''Large number of people in Manipur used this edible oil and is needed to be checked on health grounds,'' Mr Erabot said.
