Flood affects 6 lakh lives in Shravasti

Lucknow, Oct 1 (UNI) Fresh flood threat in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh has affected almost 6 lakh people due to the overflowing Ghaghra river.

Official sources said a total of 71 villages, lining the Ghaghra river coarse, were partially affected, while five had already submerged. Several life saving boats had been pressed into service and relief and rescue operation was on with full swing.

A teenager was washed away by the flood water today. So far, incessant rainfall has killed four people in Shrawasti. Four people were also reported to have been swept away by the flood water.

Owing to the release of 4 lakh cusec water in Sharda, flood threat haunts several villages of Pilibhit district. The flood water has entered many areas of Puranpur tehsil, leaving people stranded.

According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of turbulent Ghaghra and Sharda was rising at several places.
