Drive against strange names in Chhattisgarh
Bilaspur, Oct 1 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh School Education Department has directed this district's block education officers to suggest and register meaningful and proper names of impoverished dalit students whose parents give them strange names due to superstition and other reasons.
The Department's Assistant Director S L Dixit wrote to the officers directing them to issue related orders to all schools. The letter stated that, at the time of admission, teachers should inform guardians about the affect of bizarre names such as Gobar (cattle dung), Bhura (fair), Chapta (plain), Dhela (stone), Paltu (turnable) etc.
Illiterate villagers, especially of the Hindi belt, so name their children to protect them from the evil eye and ensure their long life.
