AIADMK's trade union stages demonstration

Chennai, Oct 1 (UNI) Members of the Anna Thozhir Sangam, affiliated to the main Opposition AIADMK, today staged demonstrations in front of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus depots here, demanding that they be allowed to operate buses.

Police sources said about 50 members assembled in front of the Pallavan, Basin Bridge and Saidapet depots and shouted slogans denouncing the Government.

A majority of the trade unions, affiliated to the ruling DMK, in the State Transport Corporations and MTC struck work in view of the day-long fast being observed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and his DPA partners, demanding speedy implementation of the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP).
