Two killed in head-on collision between two vans in Kerala

Alappuzha, Sep 30 (UNI) Two people were killed and eight seriously injured in a head-on collision between two vans on NH 47 near Cherthala in this district today, police said.

The deceased were identified as Santhosh Kumar (29), from Kollam and Abdul Shukur (21), from Tirur in Malappuram. They were both travelling in a mobile advertisement van going from Kollam to Malappuram. Four other people travelling by the van were seriously injured.

Four passengers of the other van, going to Thiruvananthapuram, were also seriously injured in the accident which took place around 1600 hrs.

All the injured have been admitted to a private hospital at Cherthala.

Fire force personnel had to cut through the mangled vehicles to rescue the injured.

Traffic on the highway was blocked for more than an hour following the mishap.
