More security forces needed, recommends House committee

Kathmandu, Sep 30 (UNI) The Nepal Government should deploy more defence forces as the security situation in the country is alarming ahead of the November 22 elections, the Constituent Assembly Elections Management and Monitoring Special Committee today recommended.

Presenting the findings of the parliamentary teams, Speaker Subash Nemwang in a meeting of the special House committee said the law and order situation was the main challenge for the constituent assembly elections and government should pay heed to districts like Terai where cross-border criminal activity was prominent.

''Politicians are still afraid to conduct their activities outside the district headquarters due to a frail security situation,''the Kantipur newspaper quoted the report as saying.

Led by the chief whips of the ruling parties, the committee had kept a close watch on the security situation in all five regions of the country this month and decided to move special teams to obtain primary information about the situation.
