BSP seizes illegal consignment of garmets
Shillong, Sep 30 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) deployed at Border Out-Post (BOP) Muktapur in Meghalaya seized a huge consignment of garments, which was supposed to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
In a statement issued here today, the BSF said a special patrol party yesterday apprehended an Indian national trying to cross over to Bangladesh near the BOP along with the garments, valued at Rs 40.14 lakh.
Since its deployment on the Indo-Bangla border in August 2006, 121 battalion of the BSF had launched operations against smugglers and made record seizures worth Rs 2.26 crore, including contraband and cattle heads, the statement claimed.
The BSF also apprehended 345 Bangladeshi and 133 Indian nationals and one Nepali national involved in smuggling activities within the past one year.
