Vijayawada, Sep 30 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Acting President G S Rao today said his party's government in the state would implement 'Rs 2-a-Kg Rice Scheme' for the poor in the next couple of months.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rao said the state government, which had introduced many welfare schemes like 'Jalayagnam' and 'Indiramma', would implement the rice scheme successfully.

He said the people of the state were very happy with the performance of the Rajasekhara Reddy goverment and added that the government had implemented all its election promises.

On rumours about mega star Chiranjeevi planning to launch a political party, he said ''I don't think Chiranjeevi will launch a party in the near future.'' He alleged that the TDP, instead of supporting the welfare programmes, was opposing it.

Under the 'Jalayagnam' scheme, taken up at a cost of Rs 1 lakh crore, the government would provide water for irrigation purpose to one crore acres of land, he said.

Criticising the CPI and CPI(M) for spearheading 'Bhooporatam' in the state for the last four months, he said the state government would distribute lands to the landless poor.
