Restore democracy in Myanmar: TWARO

Puducherry, Sept 28 (UNI) Voicing concern over the unrest in Myanmar, the 53rd executive committee meeting of the Textile Workers Asian Regional Organisation (TWARO) today called for restoration of democracy in that country.

A resolution adopted at the meeting resolved to support the fight for restoration of democracy through the trade unions there, TWARO secreatry Akiko Gono told reporters here.

Another resolution urged the Tamil Nadu government to protect the workers' interest of the textile and garment units at Coimbatore and Tiruppur and free those held as bonded labourers.

Resolutions seeking proper implementation of Labour laws in all countries and protect the interest of immigrant workers, among others things were adopted at the meeting.
