Rain lashes Shimla town

Shimla, Sep 28 (UNI) The maximum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh fell by a few notches today after heavy rains followed by hail lashed the famous tourist resort of Shimla and and other parts of state in the afternoon.

The rain, which began at about 1545 hrs continued up till 1715 hrs, caught the people unawares and forced them to take shelter at various places in the town.

The met office said the state capital was the wettest place in the state during the last 24 hrs after experiencing 21.2 mm rain in less than two hours.

Dharamshala and Palampur, both in Kangra district, also experienced eight and seven mm rains during the day, while Kalpa in Kinnuar district experienced 1.9 mm rain, it said.

Higher altitude areas of the tribal district of Chamba experienced fresh spell of mild snowfall last night, while lower areas of the district were lashed by light rains.

However, there was no report of snow from higher reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnuar and Kullu where sun played hide and seek during the day.

The met office said Shimla town recorded a night temperature of 12.5 and a day temperature of 21.4 degree Celsius.

Sundernagar, Kalpa and Dharamshala recorded night temperatures of 18.3, four and 15.7 degrees respectively and day temperatures of 30.1, 16 and 26.4 degree Celsius respectively, it said.

The met office has forecast light to moderate rains at a few isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
