Live bullets found in DMK MP's baggage

Chennai, Sep 28 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Anna International Airport here when security personnel seized 20 rounds of live bullets from the baggage of DMK Parliament Member K C Palanisamy when he was about to board a flight to Tiruchirapalli.

Mr Palanisamy was proceeding to board the flight to Tiruchirapalli en route Singapore on an Air India Express flight, when the security personnel stopped him after scanning his suitcase when the alarm for explosive materials went off.

As Mr Palanisamy, representing Karur Lok Sabha Constituency, pleaded ignorance, the security personnel opened the suitcase in his presence and found to their surprise 20 rounds of .32 live bullets.

Mr Palanisamy said being a MP, he had a licenced revolver and he inadvertently carried the bullets in the suitcase.

As he had to go to Tiruchirapalli to attend a function which was to be attended by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, he pleaded to be allowed to go.

The security personnel after obtaining a statement from him, allowed Mr Palanisamy to board the flight. They seized the bulltes and handed them over to the Airport Police.
