Madurai, Sep 27 (UNI) The Common Wealth Advocates Association of India today filed a writ petition before the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, seeking to direct Union Home Secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary to submit a report on the status of introducing Tamil as the High Court language.

Petitioner J Mohammed Rajvi, the Association President, also prayed to direct the Centre, Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu to take necessary action for introducing of Tamil as the medium of the court.

The petitioner submitted that Tamil had been recognised as a classical language and was one of the official languages of the country.

He contended that the Official Language Commission had published a dictionary of legal terms in Tamil and there were equivalent Tamil legal words.

The petitioner also submitted that the Tamil Nadu Assembly had passed a resolution in this regard and that it was pending President's assent.

The Bench comprising Mr Justice P K Misra and Mr Justice P R Sivakumar posted the case for tomorrow.
