Strike affects Banking services

Jaipur, Sep 27 (UNI) Normal banking operations were adversely affected today following employees' strike in the State Bank of India (SBI) and its subsidaries over reported move of merger of certain banks into SBI.

The banking services remained paralysed as most of the branhces of SBI and its six subsidaries participated in the strike which was called at the national level by the State Sector Bank Employees Association and State Bank of Indore Officers' Coordination Committee, association president Mahesh Mishra said.

Mr Mishra said employees in more than 4400 branches of these banks in different states, participated in the strike. Cheques worth over Rs 1000 crore could not be cleared for payment in Rajasthan alone as the clearing house operations also remained suspended due to the strike.

However, rival State Bank of India and Associated Bank Workers Organisation(NOBW&BMS) kept away from the strike and claimed that the impact of the strike was partial.
