Idar, Gujarat, Sep 27 (UNI) In an apparent reference to the Congress, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today told a farmers' rally that the elements trying to create hurdles on the path of the state's development will receive a befitting answer from the people in the forthcoming elections.

Mr Modi was speaking after laying the foundation stone for two canal extension irrigation projects on Dharoi dam worth Rs 99 crore in this north Gujarat town of Idar in Sabarkantha district.

''These projects will supply water to 7000 hectares of agricultural land in Idar-Vadali regions. While our government is ensuring adequate water supply to the farmers, it will also ensure gas supply to every household in Gujarat,'' Mr Modi assured.

The past governments had wasted crores of rupees on irrigation projects and yet the farms remained parched, he said. To supply their farms with Dharoi dam waters, the farmers had to wait for 30 years.

''Finally, our government has been successful in quenching the thirst of farmers with Dharoi dam waters,'' he said.

Attacking the Congress, he said, ''Today 30 per cent districts in India are victims of terrorism, intrusion and Naxal attack. After every terror attack, all that the Congress-led UPA government does is only talk.'' ''We will not allow the Congress, which is riding on the sympathy wave of Sohrabuddin, to come to power in Gandhinagar,'' he said referring to the fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Shaikh.
