Arundhati Roy supports Mid-Day journalists

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Around 30 eminent people including Booker prize winner Arundhati Roy today moved an application for impleadment in the Supreme Court along with the appeal filed by Mid-Day journalists against their conviction and sentence by Delhi High Court for publishing charges against former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal alleging that sealing orders were passed by him while presiding over a bench to benefit his two sons.

The applicants who also include senior journalist Prabhash Joshi, along with Arun Kejriwal have contended that punishment given to Mid-Day journalists is an attack on the freedom of the press and they should also be given the same punishment as they also subscribe to the views expressed in Mid-Day news item.

The application will come up for hearing tomorrow.

According to the petitioners ''truth is a defence in a contempt of court case.'' UNI
