Medical student commits suicide

Cuttack, Sep 26 (UNI) Police today recovered the body of Lopamudra Mohapatra, a third year MBBS student of SCB Medical College and Hospital from her hostel room.

Police said it appears to be a suicide case and sent the body for postmortem. Police have also seized a suicide note from the room.

Lopamudra's mother Sabitri Rout and her relative Susmita Naik alleged that for the last few months she was being threatened by a teacher over phone repeatedly. The teacher was threatening to award her less mark.

SCB Medical College and Hospital Superintendent P K Chinara said he had already apprised the higher authorities of the incident.

The suicide of Lopamudra has reminded the suicide of Richa Mishra a student of the BJB College Bhbaneswar who committed suicide after she was awarded less marks by some of the teachers as she refused to attend their private coaching classes.

The government had placed two lecturers under suspension in connection with the incident.
