New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) The by-election to the Mormugao (south Goa) parliamentary constituency will be held on October 30 while the votes will be counted on November 3.
The model code of conduct comes into effect immediately. As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission, the notification for the polls will be issued on October 5.
The nomination papers will be accepted till October 12. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on October 13 and the last date for withdrawal will be October 15.
The by-elections were necessitated following the resignation by Mr Alemao Churchill on May 8. He not only resigned from his seat but also from the Congress party and floated his own outfit, the Save Goa Front.
Mr Churchill later contested the assembly election from Navelim constituency and won. He is presently public works department minister in the Congress-led government headed by Mr Digambar Kamat.
The Election Commission has also decided to hold by-election on these dates to fill the vacancy in legislative assembly of Madhya Pradesh from Lanji assembly constituency following the death of sitting member Dileep Bhatere Bhaiyalal.
