Humungous expenditure on poll-related programmes in Nepal

Kathmandu, Sep 26 (UNI) Nepal Election Commission (EC) and different NGOs will spend over Rs 628 million to carry out the electoral process in the Himalayan nation for the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections slated for November 22.

The Commission aims to mobilise over Rs 370 million to carry out training programmes for polling officers and volunteers during the elections and awareness campaigns for the electorate.

It has also allocated Rs 32.65 million for media campaign.

Laxman Prasad Bhattarai, EC spokesperson said Nepal Peace Trust Fund (NPTF) under the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction has released Rs 120 million to conduct voters' education campaign across the country by mobilising over 8,400 volunteers, Kantipur online reported.

Meanwhile, 24 NGOs have already received approval from the Social Welfare Council (SWC) to mobilise millions of rupees received from foreign donors to launch media and voters' awareness campaign across the country.
