Technical education to be revamped in Punjab : Khalsa

Ludhiana, Sep 25 (UNI) Technical education will be completely revamped in Punjab to make it relevant to the needs of fast advancing industry.

This was stated by Mr Bikramjit Singh Khalsa, Chief Parliamentary secretary for Technical Education and Industrial Training, while addressing a seminar organized by Paras Institute of Art and Skill promotion here today.

He said that funds amounting to Rs 26.55 crore would be spent for this purpose during the current financial year against the Rs 4.57 crores spent during the last year.

Emphasizing the need for industry specific training in ITIs, the Chief Parliamentary secretary informed that all ITIs were being converted into centres of excellence for specific industries.

Mr Khalsa said that industries would should be fully involved in running these Centres, so that they could train the students according to the requirement of specific industries.

He said that short duration certificate courses in Beauty Parlor, cutting and tailoring, computer, painting etc. would be started for girls in all the ITIs to make them stand on their feet.

Mr Khalsa said that 10 new Polytechnic institutes with the cooperation of the Central Government were being set up in the state.

He said the Government was committed to create maximum jobs for the youth of the state and a large number of skill development centers were being opened in different parts of the state, where vocational training would be provided to the youth.

On this occasion, the CPS distributed certificates among 250 trainees, who completed six months Beauty Parlor training from the Institute.
