Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (UNI) The Junior doctors of the SCB Medical College and Hospital who went on cease work agitation since Wednesday last to protest against the assault on the doctors and other staff, called off their six-day long agitation last night.

The doctors ended their strike after a decision to call off the strike was taken at the general body meeting of the Junior Doctors Association(JDA) following a discussion with State Health Secretary Monoranjan Saran.

JDA Secretary Paresh Kumar Behera said they would review the security arrangement at the hospital after a month and would resort to agitation again if the security arrangement was not up to their satisfaction.

The doctors were protesting on the inadequate security in the key places of the hospital and removal of hospital Superintendent J K Balabantray.

They resorted to agitation after the relatives of a patient who died in the hospital, assaulted the doctors and staff on duty and ransacked the casualty department of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the government has removed Dr Balabantray from his post and deployed two sections of armed police inside the hospital campus to maintain law and order.

As per the arrangement the armed police would be replaced by security guards selected from among the exservicemen in a phased manner.
