SBI associate bank staff strike on Sep 27

Indore, Sep 25: Employees of six associate banks of State Bank of India will observe strike on September 27 against the proposed merger with SBI.

Barring State Bank of Saurashtra, the employees of remaining six associate banks- State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Travancore, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Indore- will participate in the strike. State Bank of Saurashtra is not participating in the strike as the boards of SBI and Saurashtra bank had already approved the merger proposal, said Mr Alok Khare, President of All India State Bank of Indore Officers Coordination Committee.

Mr Khare said all associate banks have their own identity besides the vast network in their simultaneous states. Also they have been making good profit. In order to mantain its top position and compete with the private banks, the SBI has chosen easy way of merger, he alleged.
