Rich tributes paid to Tohra on 83rd birth anniversary

Fatehgarh Sahib, Sep 25 (UNI) Rich tributes were paid to late SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra on his 83rd birth anniversary at Tohra village of Amloh constituency today.

In a function organised at Tohra village, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar along with general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Tarlochan Singh, Punjab Tourism Minister Hira Singh Gabaria, Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa, former SGPC president Kirpal Singh Badungar, MP Sukhdev Libra, former MPs Prem Singh Chandumajra and Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, MLAs Didar Singh Bhatti, Surjit Singh Rakhra and Madan Lal Jalalpur, and former minister Randhir Singh Cheema paid tributes to late Gurcharan Singh Tohra.

The function was also attended by Tohra's widow Bibi Joginder Kaur and son-in-law Harmail Singh Tohra.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Makkar informed that SGPC had reserved Rs two crore for the higher studies institutes in Tohra's memory at SAS Nager. He said earlier there was some problem with PUDA over the site but with the efforts of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it has been solved.

The SGPC president also announced grant of Rs 11 lakh for the sports stadium in the village, which was being constructed in late Tohra's memory.
