President holds reception for CPA delegates

New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today hosted a reception for the delegates to the 53rd Commonwealth of Parliamentary Association (CPA).

The reception was held in the Rashtrapati Bhavan's Moghul Gardens, famous for its magnificent variety of flowers and plants.

The assorted blooms lent colour to the ceremony.

In the traditions of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's security guards had taken up position at vantage points. The National Anthem was played as the President arrived. Mrs Patil went around with folded hands to meet and greet each and every guest.

As the sun gradually set, the Services band played tunes, some familiar and others new, enthralling the audience.

Among those present on the occasion were Vice-President Mohammed Hameed Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

About 600 Parliamentarians from 50 countries which are part of the Commonwealth are attending the Conference, being hosted by the Indian Parliament.

The nearly week-long Conference was inaugurated by the President in the morning. It has as its theme; 'Delivering democracy and sustainable development'.

The music, the surroundings, the dignified delegates and the ambience of the President's House, all added to the old world charm.

The National Anthem was played once again after which the President departed drawing the curtains on the ceremony.
