Rs 2 coins to commemorate IAF platinum jubilee


Mumbai, Sep 25: Reserve Bank will roll out new Rs 2 coins shortly, to commemorate the platinum jubilee of Indian Air Force (1932-2007).

The coin, which will have a diameter of 27 millimeters, will be made in Ferritic stainless steel containing iron and chromium.

On one side, the coin will be divided into three portions with two horizontal lines.

The left center portion will bear the ''Lion Capitol'' of Ashoka Pillar and the right center portion will bear the denominational value of ''2'' in International Numerals.

The other side will carry a logo signifying the growth of the Indian Air Force over the last seventy five years of glorious service symbolically represented through the depiction of the first fighter aircraft - Wapiti and the latest multi-role combat aircraft - SU 30 MKI in the center, said a notification today.

The existing Rs 2 coins in circulation will also continue to be legal tender, said Reserve Bank in the notification.
