New Delhi, Sept 25 (UNI) A 26-year-old doctor of an ESI Hospital was allegedly raped following a murderous assault on her at her Raja Garden hostel in West Delhi.
However, even four days after the September 21 incident the police have made no headway in the case except registering a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) in Moti Nagar police station.
Sources said three people were involved in the rape and assault of the doctor. The 'attack' by unknown assailants was done to suppress her resistance.
Meanwhile, a police official, while confirming the incident, refused to confirm the 'rape' aspect saying, ''A case under Section 307 has been registered. On the issue of rape we have yet to record her statement.'' The woman, presently in the ICU of Balaji Hospital in Paschim Vihar, was battling for her life and is not in a condition to make a statement, he informed.
The 'attack' on 26-year-old doctor took place on the intervening night of September 20/21 at the Raja Garden hostel of the ESI Hospital, situated in Basai Darapur, where she worked as an ad hoc general physician, he said.
''She was admitted to the ESI Hospital itself for her injuries but after her condition worsened she was shifted to the Balaji Hospital in Paschim Vihar.'' Being in ICU, she is not in a condition to make a statement or in which her medical examination could be done, he said while admitting that injury marks have been found near her private parts.
''A case under Section 376 could be registered only after she makes a statement.'' Hailing from Punjab, the doctor was living with her sister at the hostel, he added.
