Chikunguniya traced in blood samples in Orissa villages
Puri, Sep 25 (UNI) Blood samples of people from Villgram and Villideuli villages under the Niapara block in Puri district have traced the presence of Chikunguniya.
Recently hundreds were affected in an unknown disease in the villages and two of them died prompting the district health officials to rush medical teams to ascertain the disease.
Puri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Trilochan Baral said blood samples collected from 21 villagers were sent to Bhubaneswar for tests and the report received here confirmed presence of the dreaded germ.
He said medical teams were sent to these villages to control the disease and to treat the patients. This apart, the medicos were conducting awareness camps in the area to educate the populace to take precaution and preventive steps to control the disease. The residents were advised not to panic.
