BPUT set up committee to study academic activities

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25 (UNI) The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has formed a seven-member special committee to look into various aspects of academic activities of the University.

BPUT Vice-Chancellor Onkar Mohanty today said the committee was formed as per the decision of the academic council which was convened on September 14 in the wake of the students agitation demanding the roll back of the year back system.

The committee would be headed by Prof B S Sastry, Dean (Under Grduate studies) department of Mining Engineering IIT Kharagpur.

The other members of the committee are Industries Special Secretary S N Sarangi, NIT Rourkela, Dean of Academic Affairs Computer Science and Engineering department, AICTE Regional Officer N K Kole, Mahavir Institute of Engineering and Technology Director R K Mishra, Konark Institute of Science and Technology Principal S C Mishra and BPUT Registrar in Charge A N Acharya.

The committee would be supported by five observers of which two would be Principals from BPUT affiliated colleges, one nominated by Orissa Private Engineering College Association and two students nominated from two private colleges.

The committee after comparing systems operative in other technological universities would make recommendations for rules for promoting students, quality of question papers, answer scripts evaluation, the examination system, eligibility criteria for admission of students and enhancing quality of teachers in the BPUT system.

The Committee, Mr Mohanty said, would submit its report within one month.
