2 brothers among 4 drowned in river

Rajkot, Sep 25 (UNI) Four including two brothers drowned in the Amreli and Junagadh districts of the Surashtra region yesterday following heavy downpour that lashed the city.

According to reports, a motor-cyclist and his pillion rider were on way to a farm when their vehicle skidded off at the Bhamodra road near Savarkundla and fell into the Navli river in Amreli district.

To save the two from drowning, eight people formed a human chain, but six of them, could not balance themselves in the gushing water and were swept away into the river. However, four of them were saved by nearby people, the report said.

Three of the four bodies have been recovered from the river and have been identified as Jayantibhai Thummar (45), his brother Chaturbhai (38), and Himatbhai Pipaliya (50). The body of the fourth person, Rajubhai Khokhar (29), could not be located till late night, the report added.

Heavy rains ranging from 50 mm to 150 mm were received in various parts of the city including Khambha, Una, Chalala, Savarkundla, Bagasara, Lathi and Rajula in Junagadh and Amreli districts respectively, the report informed.
