17 AMU students suspended for violent protest

Aligarh, Sep 25 (UNI) The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice-Chancellor has suspended 17 students for their alleged involvement in violent protests, triggered by the murder of a student of the University on Septemeber 16.

Professor P K Abdul Aziz ordered the suspension of the students with immediate effect following the incident in which the VC's lodge and other University offices were ransacked by the students, an AMU release said.

Mazhar Naeem, a BSc (II)year student, was murdered on when he left his hostel for offering night prayers.

The University was shut down sine die after the incident.

Earlier this month, the faculty had decided to cooperate with the University administration to launch a sustained campaign against ''anti-social elements'' residing on campus.
