SMIMS students receive their graduation degrees

Gangtok, Sep 15 (UNI) Ninety six MBBS students from the first batch of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) were conferred their graduate degrees today by Governor V.Rama Rao during the seventh convocation of Sikkim Manipal University.

Mr Rao is the Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University(SMU) under which SMIMS operates. SMU is a public-private partnership between Sikkim government and Manipal Group.

Thirteen students pursing Bachelor of Physiotherapy from SMIMS also received their graduate degrees from the Chancellor.

SMU conferred an honorary doctorate on Prof.C N R Rao, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.

SMIMS was established in 2000 and was operational from 2002. It also has an engineering institute Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) located at Mazitar, Rangpo. Students from SMIT will receive their graduation degrees from the Chancellor tomorrow.
