Pondy Law Department issues name change order

Puducherry, Sep 24 (UNI) The Puducherry Law Department has issued Pondicherry Adaptation of Laws Order 2007 under Section 8 of the Pondicherry (Alteration of Name) Act, 2006 (Central Act 44 of 2006).

An official release said the Order was to adapt the name of the Union Territory as Puducherry and to retain the name of the town as Pondicherry.

It may be noted that the President had given his assent for changing the name of Union Territory to Puducherry on September 13, 2006, which was published in the Central Gazette on September 14.

The new name came into force from October one, 2006, the release added.
