New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The BJP today strongly condemned the attack on its Tamil Nadu unit by the DMK activists supported by the state government.

Addressing mediapersons, former party President M Venkaiah Naidu said the incident took place despite Swami Ram Vilas Vedanti of Ram Janambhoomi Trust clarifying that the media had misquoted him on the issuance of ''fatwa'' against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi. He said a religious preacher can never talk of violence.

Mr Naidu said they are opposed to any sort of ''fatwa'' on any issue.

He said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should read the Indian constitution once again since it has upheld the existence of Lord Ram, Sita, Laxman. The document bears the signature of Dr B R Ambedkar also. The former Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru was the second signatory approving the Indian constitution, he added.

The party has already taken up the matter with Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil urging him for a probe into the violence to punish the guilty, he added.
