Puri,Sep 24 (UNI) Orissa state Bharatiya Janata Party Krushak Morcha (BJKM) president Krushna Chandra Jagdev has condemned Union Textile Minister Shanker Singh Vaghela's recent remarks on the farmers.

Describing the farmers as ''lazy, greedy and dishonest'', the Union Minister reflected the anti-farmer policy of the UPA led Congress government, Mr Jagdev said in a statement here today.

Stating that the peasant community was neglected and required the state's help, the BJKM president urged the state government to create a Rs 1000 crore farmers welfare fund for the community.

He demanded the state government to bring out suitable amendments in the prevention of cow slaughter act and implement it in letter and spirit.

Mr Jagdev advised the state government to prepare a master plan to meet the drought, flood and other natural calamity.

The BJKM President further urged the state government to shift anti-farmer bureaucrats obstructing farmer welfare projects and demanded the gram panchayats be taken as the unit for assent of the crop insurance claims and the scheme should be extended to all the blocks of the state.

He decried the contract farming being introduced in the country as such concepts were against the interest of the farmers.
