Siblings drown in lake

Chennai, Sep 23 (UNI) In a heart-rending incident, four children of a family drowned while taking a bath at Chembarambakkam lake in suburban Kundrathur today.

Police said the victims were identified as 45-year-old Murugesan's daughters Saranya (16) and Sharmila (13), his son Santosh (nine) and niece Rajeshwari (19), who had come from Thanjavur on a holiday.

They had gone to the lake around 1600 hrs to have a bath, suddenly Santosh, caught in the deep waters and met a watery grave. The other three met with the same fate while trying to rescue him.

Fire service personnel retrieved the bodies and sent them to Chromepet Government Hospital for post - mortems.
