Kathmandu, Sept 23 (UNI) The six-day Pranayam camp of the Yoga Guru, Swami Ram Dev began at Tundikhel in the capital today, with the participation of thousands of people on the first day.

Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ramchandra Poudel inaugurated the Pranayam session today morning where a large number of political party leaders and general public had gathered to learn the art of healthy living from the Yoga Guru.

The programme, scheduled to be held yesterday, was put off citing security reason. However, the government has said it would provide security to the camp to ensure its running of the camp.

This is for the first time in the history of Nepal that such a large number of people are pouring in for a Yoga camp. Swami Ramdev's Yoga teachings have gained popularity in Nepal through Aastha television channel for the last few years.

The Pranayam camp lasted five hours today where the organisers say around 25,000 had registered their names for participation.

It is said that around 40,000 children will participate in the yoga camp on September 24 and about one million people will attend open yoga teachings of Swami Ram Dev which is scheduled to be held on September 25.

Guru Ramdev informed that two evening classes-one for the children and another open to everyone-would be held to compensate for the initially scheduled six-day Yoga Camp, which has been reduced by a day.
