40 Grampanchayats elected unopposed in Kolhapur dist

Kolhapur, Sep 23 (UNI) About 40 Grampanchayats were elected unopposed after the expiry of filing nomination papers date yesterday in Kolhapur district.

District Election branch sources today said that the highest 17 Grampanchayats were elected unopposed in Chandgad tehsil of the district followed by Panhala and Shahuwadi tehsils.

A total of 478 Grampanchayats elections were to be held on October 7 for which a total about 17,000 candidates filed their nomination papers till yesterday, the last date of nominations,the sources said.

As many as 2673 candidates had filed nominations for 549 seats for Hatkanangale tehsil's 41 Grampanchayats, followed by 2616 candidates for 558 seats in Karvir tehsil's 53 Grampanchayats.

More Grampanchayats are expected to be elected unopposed, for which the picture will be clear later after scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of the nominations,the sources added.

UNI
