NMC's Rs 310 cr rainwater drainage scheme approved

Nashik, Sep 22 (UNI) The Union Government has approved a Rs 310 crore rainwater drainage scheme, a proposal for which was presented by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNRUM).

Due to absence of any permanent scheme for rain water drainage, many parts of the city face water logging during the rainy season. To find a solution to this problem, the NMC had appointed Multimantek International Private Limited to study the feasibility of the rainwater drainage scheme.

The NMC, in February this year, had presented this report to the state government which, in turn, had placed it before the Central Government which approved the scheme yesterday.

The Union Government will provide 50 per cent funds whereas the state government will provide 20 per cent funds for the scheme. The NMC bear the remaining 30 per cent costs.
