Sri Lankan Court frees 10 Indian fishermen

Colombo, Sept 22: Sri Lanka's district court of Mannar has released ten Indian fishermen, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan navy for illegally poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters last week.

The Indian fishermen were freed by the District court yesterday along with their two fishing trawlers and are likely to be sent to Tamil Nadu via Colombo within a couple of days, diplomatic sources said.

The step is seen as a reciprocal gesture for the release of ten Sri Lankan fishermen along with five boats by India this Friday, sources said.
