Accused in triple murder case sentenced to life imprisonment

Una, Sep 22 (UNI) A fast track court in Una district of Himachal Pradesh today sentenced triple murder accused Gurjent Singh to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 65,500.

Six other accused, Amrish Rana, Malkiat Singh, Manjeet Singh, Harjinder Singh, Rahul and Naveen, are already serving life sentences in the case of murder that took place on the Una-Pirnigaha road.

A clash between two rival groups had left three persons, identified as Raj Kumar, Rajiv Kumar and Santokh Singh, dead and six injured.

Main accused Gurjent Singh and Amrish Rana are also facing charges in several other criminal cases in Una, Delhi, Kangra, Shimla and Bathinda.

Gurjent Singh, who had escaped from the Kanda jail some years ago, was declared a proclaimed offender during trials to the triple murder case.

Gurjent Singh is currently lodged in the Bathinda jail along with Amrish Rana after their arrest from a suburb in the Bathinda city earlier this year.

After his conviction, he was ordered to be shifted to the Nahan jail in the state, according to Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Krishan Kumar Chaudhary.
