Software engineer, woman crushed to death

Chennai, Sep 21 (UNI) A 30-year-old software engineer, who arrived here from Australia, and a woman were crushed to death and two others injured when a tanker lorry ran amok at St Thomas Mount late last night.

Police said the engineer, Lalit Mohan, arrived from Australia to attend a family function and was travelling in a car to his uncle's house in Nandambakkam.

At the Butt Road junction, the lorry which was coming from the opposite direction, collided with the car, rammed into a stationed vehicle and jumped into a platform before it came to a halt.

Lalit Mohan, who was sitting in the car was crused to the death.

The other victim was a woman, who was walking on the platform when she has knocked down by the tanker.

The car driver and Lalit's cousin Vikram, who sustained injuries, were admitted to Government General Hospital.

The driver of the lorry abandoned the vechicle and fled from the scene.
