BHEL secures equipments order for proposed addl power

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 21 (UNI) The public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has secured 70 per cent of the order for manufacturing power plant equipments for the proposed additional generation of power during the 11th Five Year Plan, Executive Director R K Mishra said today.

Addressing BHEL's sub-contractor meeting here, he pointed out that out of the proposed 78,600 MW of additional power 59,000 MW would be Thermal. The power will be generated with coal. BHEL had already bagged an order for 35,000 MW power generation equipment and it would get another 17,000 MW order soon.

He said BHEL would also be making boilers for 42,000 MW of additional power generation in the next five years.

To achieve this, BHEL had already commenced a massive modernisation cum expansion of the unit here at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore.

He also called up on sub-contractors to focus on cost reduction and the cycling period in the face of stiff global competition. The cost reduction should be made from designing to erecting stage, he added.
