Kerala to seize tainted Govt officials' assets
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19: The Kerala Government will enact a legislation, enabling confiscation of the assets of public servants who had amassed wealth illegally, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan informed the State Assembly today.
Replying to questions from Mr A C Moideen (CPM) and others, he said the Government had given approval to the draft Bill and it would be a follow up of the Criminal Act of 1994.
Stating that functioning of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau would be strengthened, Mr Balakrishnan said surprise inspections by the Vigilince would be extended to more departments.
During the last one year, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau had registered 590 cases and investigation in 101 cases have been completed, he said, adding that the Government had decided to consficate the assets of three Government officials, who had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
