TRAI seeks stakeholders' views on Mobile TV services

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) With Doordarshan having already launched its mobile TV service in Delhi, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today released a consultation paper on issues relating to the new service and the technology.

TRAI recommendations had been sought by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on various issues relating to mobile television services under which television content can be provided to subscribers on handheld or portable devices such as mobile phones through the mobile telecommunications networks or by using the broadcasting technologies.

The issues on which the Ministry wants TRAI advice are international practice, eligibility criteria, net-worth requirement, foreign direct and indirect investment levels, technology to be adopted, revenue sharing, entry fees, bank guarantee, and spectrum to be used.

The main issues on which comments have been sought are: Preferred technology for mobile television service, preference for satellite/ terrestrial system, spectrum requirements for analogue/ digital/ mobile TV terrestrial broadcasting, methodology for frequency spectrum allocation, eligibility conditions for grant of license, net-worth requirements Besides, the limits for FDI and portfolio investment, the tenure of license, license fee -revenue share system or any other system and licenses on national/ regional/ city basis are also the vital matters on which repsonses of the stakeholders have been sought.

They have been asked to give their inputs by September 30.
