Swamy seeks Coast Guard cover for Ram Sethu

Chennai, Sep 18 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today urged Defence Minister A K Antony to provide Coast Guard protection for Ram Sethu as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) might try to blow up the bridge.

Dr Swamy, in a statement here, said he met Mr Antony and urged him to deploy Coast Guard around Ram Sethu to ensure its protection.

He told the Defence Minister that eversince the Supreme Court restrained the Union Shipping Ministry from carrying out dredging works in the Ram Sethu area, there had been talks in the Rameswaram area that the LTTE might blast the bridge to please the Dravidian parties.

Dr Swamy claimed Mr Antony assured him that the government was determined to respect the apex court order and would ensure that it was not violated by anyone.
