Sub-Inspector convicted for missing articles in Malkhanna

Rourkela, Sep 18 (UNI) Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Assistant Sessions Judge, Rourkela, Niranjan Sahu today convicted a police sub-inspector and sentenced him to four-year rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 5000 for the missing cash and other items from the malkhanna.

The court also ruled that sub-inspector Januarius Daa, convicted under Section 409 of the IPC, would undergo imprisonment for six months more if he failed to pay the fine.

The police sub-inspector was also convicted u/s 29 of the Police Act and sentenced to one month rigorous imprisonment.

As per the prosecution, Januarius was in charge of malkhanna, while he was working as a sub-inspector in Sector 19 police station.

He was transferred to GRPF on March 8,2003, but he did not hand over the charge of the malkhanna to his successor despite repeated orders from the District Superintendent of Police.

A case was filed against the sub-inspector after an inventory check made by an Executive Magistrate, on the order of the Police Superintendent, revealed that a sum of Rs 34,700 in cash and some other items were found neither in the malkhanna nor in the court.
