Model code of conduct implemented

Gangtok, Sep 18 (UNI) With the announcement of Panchayat elections to be held on October 26 by the Sikkim State Election Commission, the model code of conduct has been implemented in the state.

There are 163 gram panchayats and four Zilla Panchyats whose term expires on November 10.

All members of the Gram Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats would have to vacate their offices with effect from the date of announcement of the enforcement of the model code of conduct, a government release stated.

All property of the Gram Panchayats and Zilla Panchayats would remain vested with the state government until reconstitution of new bodies, as per the law, the release added.
