MHS to set up 200-bed hospital in Penang

Singapore, Sep 18 (UNI) Manipal Health System (MHS) would set up a 200-bed hospital in Penang by 2009, group chairman Dr Ramdas Pai said.

''Our vision for MHS is to be one of the top 10 healthcare providers in Asia,'' the Star newspaper today quoted Dr Pai as saying. MHS has signed a joint-venture agreement with a Malaysian partner, Sri Arunesh Sdn Bhd, in the northern Peninsular Malaysian island state yesterday.

Construction work of the five-storey hospital would begin from October 25. It is expected to cost 30 million Malaysian ringgit.

The Manipal group is also a partner in the Malacca-Manipal Medical College.
