Library attackers remanded in police custody
Nashik, Sep 18 (UNI) A local court here today remanded 36 persons, held in connection with the attack on a public library in Yeola taluka of this district, in police custody till September 20.
The 36 persons, arrested for damaging the Sant Gadgebaba public library in Mamdapur village on September 16, were produced before the court of judge P P Sharma yesterday who remanded them in police custody till Thursday.
A mob had attacked the library and destroyed the furniture. The ire of the mob was directed at the library since it had a book containing some controversial references to Lord Rama. Librarian Dattu Wagh was out town at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the librarian for keeping the controversial book. He has been arrested and remanded in judcial custody for 14 days.
